The impact of remote sensing technologies in recent years has changed how to monitor the environment through timely decision support in a number of fields, including firefighting, forestry management, precision agriculture, the ocean, and environmental pollution monitoring. Other fields affected include monitoring of climate change, glacier melting, greenhouse gas emissions, and fires.
Many studies on sensing technologies, including satellites, field sensors, and drones, have been done with a focus on data collection and integration from heterogeneous sensing devices as well as problems with data format interoperability.
A multi-sensing environment is achieved by leveraging remote intelligent systems such as satellites, vehicles, and any smart IoT-based sensing device for monitoring, communication, and coordination tasks aimed at supporting human decision-making in ordinary or critical situations. The improvement of environmental monitoring comprehension, particularly in emergency response scenarios, calls for a comprehensive understanding of the situation through the collection and integration of environmental features and a contextual interpretation of the collected data.
Advanced methods for the collection and integration of sensing data and environmental monitoring applications are being suggested by established Artificial Intelligence (AI) methodologies and technologies, such as Deep and Reinforcement Learning, Data Mining and Soft Computing, and Fuzzy Logic, to support the upcoming climate and environmental change battles.
This session aims to discuss remote sensing/satellite-based approaches for monitoring the terrestrial environment by fusing artificial intelligence methods with remote sensing technologies.
